Hilton Head Communities: Unity in Diversity
Hilton Head Island is renowned for being one of the ultimate vacation spots for everyone who loves beaches, tennis, golfing, fishing, and a wide variety of water sports—not to mention world-class restaurants and great shopping. While this represents Hilton Head Island as a whole, there are actually many different Hilton Head communities which make up this whole. Whether you live on Hilton Head Island or are visiting as a guest, each Hilton Head community has something special to offer.
Sea Pines Plantation was the first of the modern Hilton Head communities and served as the model for the other communities which were to follow. It is the largest of all the Hilton Head communities, and boasts two marinas, four miles of beaches, the Sea Pines Racquet Club—home to some of the best tennis training programs in the nation—and Harbour Town Golf Links, where you can play on the same course used by the pros during the PGA tour.
For those interested in history, there are two Hilton Head communities waiting to be discovered. When Spanish explorers first landed on Hilton Head Island, they landed in the future home of the Spanish Wells community. Although it is a private community, it is perfect for those who want to escape from their busy schedules and get away from it all. The Port Royal Community is home to the original landing site of William Hilton, the explorer the island is named after. This community includes both a private residential area as well as a public resort area for guests.
There are many other Hilton Head communities just waiting to be explored. Hilton Head Plantation offers beaches, bike trails, four different golf courses, boating, tennis courts, and two different nature conservancy centers. Windmill Harbour is the ideal destination for boating and water sports enthusiasts, offering direct access to the famous Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Other famous communities include Palmetto Dunes, Indigo Run, Wexford, and Shipyard Plantation. Each of these Hilton Head communities has something special to offer, and together they create the full Hilton Head Island experience. |
